Starting a course at the ISC in September?

Posted 27 August 2016

Are you joining us at the International Study Centre in September 2016? Find out what happens when you arrive in the UK and how to get to your accommodation.

Welcome to the UK

Your airline will give you a landing card to fill in before you land. Once you land, you will go through border control, where your passport will be checked. You may also need to have an interview with UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI). After collecting your luggage and going through customs, you will reach the arrivals hall. Welcome to the UK!

Traveling from the airport to Brighton

Brighton has excellent transport links, so there are many ways you can travel from Gatwick and Heathrow airports to Brighton and your accommodation.

  • If you have pre-booked a taxi the driver will meet you in the arrivals hall.
  • Depending on the date you arrive, you may be able to take advantage of the University's Meet and Greet service. Staff from the International Study Centre may also be there to greet you.
  • If you arrive at Gatwick Airport (closest airport to the International Study Centre)you can get a train, bus or taxi to Brighton.
  • If you arrive at Heathrow Airportyou can get a train (via the London Underground), bus or taxi.

Traveling from Brighton to your accommodation

If your accommodation is on-campus you can get the taxi, or the train from Brighton to Falmer. The train costs approximately £2.60 and the journey takes 10 minutes. If your accommodation is off-campus you can get a taxi or bus from the train station.

Welcome home

Once you've settled in to your new room, you can introduce yourself to your new neighbour, start getting involved with student activities on campus and exploring the lively city of Brighton.

Three things to remember

  • Try to arrive in the UK on Saturday, 10 September. This is when your accommodation will be ready.
  • Getting a taxi to the campus? The driver may need the address: University of Sussex, Falmer, Brighton, East Sussex, BN1 9RH. You can also download a campus map.
  • Don't forget to phone home, to let your family know you've arrived safely.
